It seems like I have been going nonstop for the last three months. Sometimes I forget that I need to take a minute and appreciate all of the things I have been able to experience raising our daughter. In that time, our not so little baby girl has learned quite a bit, like:
- How to sit up unassisted
- How to belly laugh
- How to crawl
- How to pull herself up
- How to stand
- How to eat with her hands
She has also had a lot of other first. Some of those include:
- Her first flight
- Meeting her great grandparents
- Dressing up in her first Halloween costume
- Having her first Thanksgiving turkey
- Celebrating her first Christmas
- Celebrating her first New Year’s
- Seeing her first horse race
I can’t imagine what 12 months from now will look like. It is incredible to see the exponential growth that babies go through – it’s like witnessing a miracle each day. As a dad, I feel privileged to share in these special moments with my daughter, and proud to “brag” about the things she does. Sure, every baby will go through these stages and learn all of the same abilities she is learning, but it doesn’t take away from it’s significance in my mind. Every breath we take is a miracle, and I am reminded of that each day that I look at my daughter’s beautiful face and see her continuing development.
I am thankful that we live in a day and age where we can capture all of these moments and replay them later on. In nine short months we have already accumulated thousands of pictures and videos of all of the amazing (and not so amazing) moments. And even better, her grandparents and other relatives can see it all happening realtime.
Today I am counting my blessings for the “firsts” we have already experienced, and looking forward to celebrating many more to come.
